Grain Studios

Film, Developed With Intention.

Grain Studios is a passionate team of film photographers based in San Francisco. We started this lab because we wanted a mail-in experience we'd actually want to use ourselves - one that treated every roll with the same care we'd want for our own.

Every roll is developed and scanned in-house using professional-grade chemistry and equipment, maintained to the same standard on every order. No outsourcing. No cutting corners. Just clean, consistent scans delivered straight to your inbox via WeTransfer within 1-2 business days.

We process 35mm, 120, and disposable film with scan sizes built for everything from social sharing to large format printing.

Whether you're new to analog or have been shooting for years, you're in good hands. We treat every roll like it matters, because to us, it does.

Send us your film. We'll handle the rest.

Frequently asked questions

What is your turnaround time?

We process your film within 1-2 business days of receiving it at our lab. You'll receive your scan link via email as soon as it's ready.

How does the mail-in process work?

Place your order online, mail your film to the address provided in your confirmation email, and we'll handle the rest. Your digital scans will be delivered via a download link once processing is complete.

What film formats do you accept?

We process color (C-41) 35mm, 120, and disposable cameras. Black & white and slide film are not offered at this time.

How will I receive my scans?

Once your film is processed, you'll receive an email with a private download link to your gallery. From there you can view and download all your scans.

Where do I mail my film?

The mailing address is included in your order confirmation email. Package your rolls securely and include your order number on a slip of paper inside the package.

What scan sizes do you offer?

We offer three scan sizes - Small (1512x1002px, great for social media), Medium (3024x2005px, good for everyday use and standard printing), and Large (6048x4011px, best for archival quality and large prints).

Do I get my negatives back?

No - negatives are not returned. Please keep this in mind before ordering. If having your negatives back is important to you, our mail-in service may not be the right fit.

Do you offer a prepaid shipping label?

Yes. You can add a prepaid USPS shipping label to your order for $6.49. Once your order is placed, we'll email you the label within 12-24 hours, ready to print and attach to your package.

Can I track my order?

Yes. You'll receive email updates at each stage - when your label is sent, when your film arrives at our lab, and when your scans are ready.

What if my film comes back blank or damaged?

If a roll comes back blank or damaged due to camera issues or film age, the processing fee still applies. We'll always notify you if anything unusual comes up during processing.

What if my film gets lost in the mail?

We recommend using tracked shipping. If you purchase our prepaid label, tracking is included. Grain Studio is not responsible for film lost before it reaches our lab.

What should I include inside my Package?

Include a note with your first and last name, email address, and order number written in legible handwriting. This helps us match your film to your order quickly.

Can I send multiple rolls in one order?

Yes. Simply add each roll to your order at checkout. Each roll is priced individually based on format and scan size.
